UTA to hold open houses on proposed service changes

The Utah Transit Authority will hold a series of eight open houses over the next two weeks in Salt Lake County and Grantsville. The purpose is to share information and receive feedback on proposed service changes to be made on August 7, 2011, in conjunction with opening the Mid-Jordan and West Valley TRAX lines. UTA has proposed two service scenarios based on public input received last fall. Public comment will be accepted on the proposal through Mar. 31 (see attached public hearing notice for details).

Save Our Canyons to Protest Salt Lake County Planning Commission

Members of Save Our Canyons (SOC) will protest the Salt Lake County Planning Commission Monday afternoon following what they believe to be the commission's improper handling of a construction waiver and conditional use permit for a mountain coaster at Snowbird. The protest comes two days before the organization's appeal of the Planning Commission, scheduled to be heard Wednesday, March 16, 2011 before the Salt Lake County Board of Adjustment.

Budah at Home and Garden Expo

The Spring Home and Garden Festival is in town this weekend and Fox 13's Big Budah headed down to the South Towne Expo Center to get a preview.

Salt Lake County seeks public input on the locations of 2 new community gardens

          Salt Lake County's Urban Farming division is pleased to announce the creation of two new community gardens in county owned parks. Public meetings will be held in various places throughout Salt Lake County to receive input on the possible locations for the gardens, and to answer questions about the application process to select the final sites.

School Board Discusses Projects Timeline, Economic Downturn

The Canyons Board of Education is discussing building schedule options for the first five bond projects after learning property values are expected to decline again this year. This would be the third consecutive year of property value declines, unprecedented in recent memory. Declining property values would impact Canyons' ability to collect sufficient tax revenue to pay for the principal and interest on new bonds on its current timeline without a tax increase. The District also is legally bound to continue its payments on $213 million in old Jordan debt.

Dr. Seuss Birthday and Read Across America Celebration

The Sunrise PTA expects more than 700 birthday guests to attend and participate in a variety of activities (staffed by "birthday booth" volunteers) all of which are based on favorite books by the beloved children's author.

Safe Kids Fair gets a visit from Budah

Safety is important for everyone and Zero Fatalities is hosting a Safe Kids Fair to give youth tips and advice on how to keep safe.

The fair takes place Friday and Saturday at the South Towne Expo Center (9575 South State Street) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
