Draper family gifted new furnace | News
A Utah family is feeling the holiday warmth after a local heating company delivered a brand new furnace, free of charge.
Action Plumbing and Heating is behind the holiday gift. The Olsons' furnace gave out last week. Technicians told the family it would cost upwards of $8,000 to fix. Money has been tight for the Olsons. Brent Olson has been working out of state after losing his local job a few years back. A number of medical bills has also depleted their savings. Brent says a new furnace was not in the numbers.
"I'm really grateful as I wasn't here to do anything.” said Brent. "All I could tell her was to stay warm and stay under the covers."
"For a few months he's been telling us he had to work during Christmas and couldn't come home," said Dawna. "So that's pretty much what we had geared up for."
The free furnace meant Brent could use the money to come home for the holidays. Dawna said Brent usually has a hard time keeping secrets, but the surprise on her face was worth the extra effort.
The family has been bundling up with extra blankets and space heaters for the past week. Dawna said she’d felt the onset of frostbite in her toes.
Action Plumbing and Heating spokesperson Nate Di Palma says they're always on the lookout for customers in need and the entire company wanted to help.
"Sometimes something like this happens that you can be a part of that makes a difference and you really want to participate," said Di Palma.
Dawna says the surprise is beyond her expectations, but she's most thankful to have her entire family home for Christmas.
