Architects design extreme gingerbread houses for charity

Three groups of professional architects teamed up to build extreme gingerbread houses.

The teams competed to make the most extreme house at a Draper Harmon's grocery store. Heavy-duty gingerbread was used to build the houses.

The houses will be on display at the Harmon's off Bangerter in Draper until Dec. 16. They will then be auctioned off; all money raised will benefit the Utah Food Bank.

Elderly cats caught knitting, playing bingo on hidden cameras

No More Homeless Pets say hidden cameras reveal elderly felines have the same hobbies and interests as senior humans.

Or maybe not.

This ploy is a creative way of getting Utahns to adopt older cats. Animal advocates say it's hard competing with cute kittens.

"This is the time of year unfortunately every community and every shelter is saturated with kittens, and the adult cats in the coming weeks have a really hard time competing with all those cute little fuzzy kitten faces," said Temma Martin with the Best Friends Animal Society.

Elderly cats will be available for adoption at a discounted price; $25 until April 22, and free for seniors adopting senior cats.

Mensa test coming to Utah

Have you ever thought about joining Mensa? If so, here's your chance to "carpe diem" and take the American Mensa Admission Test. National Mensa Testing Day is October 16, 2010. Local chapters will be testing across the country, and anyone who scores in the top two percent on the admission test will be invited to join the High IQ society.

The 11th annual Wasatch Reptile Expo in coming to Salt Lake October 2nd and 3rd at the Utah State Fairpark.

Thousands of snakes, lizards, frogs, salamanders, spiders, scorpions and many other unusual creatures will be on display and for sale at this event.
